Media & Communications Officer
  • APS 6 level. $80k - $94k + super
  • 12 month non ongoing contract
  • Centrally located Federal Government Agency
A diverse role encompassing communication strategy, project delivery and media engagement. Your new company A Federal Government Agency with a scientific focus is looking for a customer focussed, strategic and proactive communication expert to develop and apply creative approaches to media and communication management. Your new role As the Media Officer, you will work in collaboration with a diverse range of creative communication experts. This includes: communication strategists and advisors, event coordinators, media engagement officers, science communicators, online content managers, multimedia specialists and graphic designers. Your duties will require you to:
  • work with subject matter experts to identify proactive media opportunities, and develop media strategies and campaigns
  • provide strategic advice to the senior leadership team, and work with members of the executive to develop positive relationships with media outlets
  • coordinate with external stakeholders, including Ministers offices, and partner agencies and organisations to develop media activities and products
  • coordinate response to media enquiries
  • develop written content for use across a range of channels
  • deliver media monitoring services to the organisation
  • fulfil out-of-hours media officer duties on a rotational basis
  • coordinate media-related events
  • provide advice to business areas on communication practices.
What youll need to succeed We are looking for someone who can quickly gain an understanding of the workings of this unique Federal Government Department to effectively recommend and implement media strategies that support the organisations strategic deliverables. You will be someone who can deliver high quality media activities and products within time and budget, whilst also using research and analytics to understand the organisations media presence and how to proactively engage with target audiences. Your strong relationship building and interpersonal skills will ensure that you develop and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders, including partners and media representatives. We are also seeking an individual with a high standard of writing and editing. Experience working in a media-related role and will see you hit the ground running in this opportunity. A Baseline Clearance or higher is preferred for this position.
