Job Description

A unique and exciting opportunity has become available with the creation of a new network of independent retailers. The position of General Manger will be responsible for overseeing the initial creation and ongoing success of a national group of retail and trade businesses. As the General Manager, reporting directly to the Chair of the Board, you will lead the Support Centre and associated areas of the operation. In conjunction with the Board of Directors you will develop and implement the strategic business plan and annual budget. Ongoing you will be responsible for the financial and operational performance of the organisation, the selection process of and leading a high performance team, identifying and implementing improvements to the business model and providing periodical reports to the Board of Directors. Key tasks associated with the role include:
  • Delivering benchmark expectations of the network profitability, viability, succession
  • Overseeing Business Manager business meetings, business plans and their ongoing successful execution
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, assigning weekly performance goals and assuring their completion, while accomplishing your own goals
  • Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished
  • Delegate core responsibilities in-line with the networks policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs and cultural values
  • Perform network audits aligned to Network Partnership agreements and business plans
  • Engage with relevant Government departments in the advocacy of the network
  • Oversee the development and delivery of the network store team development program
  • To be successful in this role you will need to hold a tertiary qualification in a related discipline, with experience at the senior management and/or executive level. You will need be able to demonstrate business development and cost centre management experience. Ideally you will have worked in or managed a multi-site retail chain operation. The attributes for the role require you to be innovative and enthusiastic, have strong interpersonal, financial, analytical and organisational skills to ensure that you are able to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all areas of the network. You will also be proactive, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and have the ability to meet tight deadlines. Additionally, you will need to show strong leadership skills to motivate and energise your team to deliver exceptional customer service through the Support Centre.
